Accessibility

No one’s existence should be an afterthought.

We all deserve to live in a world that is thoughtfully and intricately designed to meet our needs.

Why accessibility matters

  • Advances DE&I

When we create spaces where we’re all able to work, learn, play, and live with ease, we can better bridge the gap that divides us on the basis of ability.

  • Improves quality of life

The every day tasks and activities many of us take for granted can sometimes be an involved process for others. Accessibility-informed design helps us make more room for happiness and less for difficulty.

  • Promotes usability

Accessibility design allows us to optimize everything from technology to housing to be more safe, effective, efficient, and enjoyable for all.

  • Fosters a better society

As we adapt our world to support all abilities, we help build more mindful, patient, kind, and accepting communities, societies, and future generations of people.

How we power accessibility

In our world & society

Simply put, people with disabilities deserve to be respected, seen, and heard. And creating a world where that is the norm begins with us. We strive to funnel our power, resources, and capabilities into action that bolsters the voices and lives of people with disabilities. To make progress on this goal, we:

  • Amplify the voices and work of people with disabilities by engaging disability activists in our accessibility efforts and providing forums for people with disabilities to tell their stories and experiences

  • Fervently advocate for accessible design in the construction of homes and residential buildings

  • Work to de-stigmatize mental illnesses and support mental health causes and initiatives

  • Openly and boldly denounce ableism and bullying anywhere we see or hear it

  • Support the political and social agendas of the disability rights movement

  • Commit to continuosly educating ourselves on the history, experiences, and correct terminology regarding disabilities, the disability rights movement, and disabled people

In our services & business

We believe everyone deserves to live in the happy and healthy homes our services help foster. To provide that opportunity to all people and adequately serve all customers, we must consider accessibility in everything that we do as a business. To start, we:

  • Deliver our digital services in a variety of formats including correspondence via email, phone, and/or virtual meetings

  • Integrate questions regarding disabilities in our service intake forms to ensure our specialists provide informed and applicable home solutions

  • Hire specialists and staff who are knowledgeable and/or experts in accessible living and design

  • Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, influencers, and organizations who show great consideration of accessibility in their products, services, and/or values

  • Are actively developing an accessibility policy that will outline Onvesso’s formal rules regarding accessibility

  • Work to ensure our content—such as our website, blog, and social media—is accessible

As Onvesso grows and evolves, we will continuously keep you updated on our progress in accessibility across our services.

In our culture

At Onvesso, we know that there are disabilities we can and can’t see. That’s why it’s critical that we not only create an environment where assistive technologies and tools are readily available for our employees, but also provide the flexibility and freedom our employees need to adequately care for their mental and physical well-being. To establish this, we:

  • Support accessibility accommodations to ensure optimized working experiences to all employees—no matter their ability status

  • Enable safe and anonymous spaces for employees to comfortably share opportunities for growth in accessibility at Onvesso

  • Actively hire employees with disabilities as well as specialists with expertise in accessible living and design

  • Integrate accessible tools such as Immersive Reader in our corporate technology program

  • Assess our evaluation, promotion, and pay models, continuously, to ensure ADA compliance

  • Offer flexible work schedules, mental health days, generous PTO, and other resources to support employee mental wellness
